Involvement with theater, musicals, and other performing arts as a child blossomed into a passion for public speaking that I continued to develop in high school as a member of the forensics club and debate team. Public speaking skills also turned out to be a very useful talent to have later at the university. Lecturing in front of 20-30 students is now something I do several times per week, and public speaking has become second nature to me.
I first began presenting professionally in 2014 when I was contacted by Germany's largest public health insurance provider. They needed someone to give a PowerPoint presentation explaining the German healthcare system to the increasing number of international exchange students coming in to Hochschulen and universities in Southwest Germany. I was selected from among the several English service providers who had been asked to apply and I started by translating the health insurance company's PowerPoint presentation into English. I now travel to schools all over the region at the start of each semester, giving this presentation to groups of 20-50 students, explaining the benefits of public health insurance, and helping students to sign up.
Public speaking has also been a tool I have used to help grow my own business. I regularly hold a breakfast and presentation at Hotel/Restaurant LAGO several times per year in which I explain the concept and advantages that English Consulting has to offer.
English presentations are often one of the most challenging aspects of international business for German professionals. Missing vocabulary, grammatical deficits and lack of confidence are magnified by the stress of speaking in front of colleagues or customers. Of course I often help businessmen and women with their presentation skills as an English teacher and consultant, but if a presentation is critical and native-level fluency is a must, I can give presentations on behalf of your company, helping your organization to make the most professional impression possible.
